Jordan University of Science and Technology Master's Degree Program in Applied Behavior Health Analysis

The Jordan University of Science and Technology (JUST) Masters Degree Program in Applied Behavior Health Analysis program was started as a collaborative effort between the Association for Behavior Analysis International (ABAI) and JUST in 2005 as a result of an ABAI international delegation to Jordan. In 2007, the program admitted the first cohort of students and today there are about 35 students/graduates spanning across 3 cohorts. The program is operated out of JUST within the Department of Nursing and Dr. Linda J. Hayes (lhayes@unr.edu), Erick Dubuque (erickdubuque@yahoo.com) and Maria Isabel Munoz Blanco (mimunozb@bt.unal.edu.co) volunteer as the ABAI Coordinators for the program. The program has been in existence now for over 2 years and in December 2009 the first group of graduates completed the Program. ABAI is inviting qualified members to apply to teach in the JUST program.

Although the Program has experienced a lot of success thanks to the hard work of all the coordinators, instructors, and students, there is still a lot more that needs to be accomplished to maintain the program and develop behavior analysis in the region. In particular, ABAI still needs dedicated qualified instructors interested in teaching in the Program. In addition to the wonderful experience of teaching in a foreign country, instructors invited to teach in the Program receive a stipend, air fare, housing, meals, and transport during their stay in Jordan. The majority of didactic courses taught in the Program are usually delivered face-to-face at JUST over a 3-week period or through a 7-week hybrid online face-to-face format (3 weeks online, 1 week on-site at JUST, and 3 weeks online).

Didactic Coursework

Didactic instruction in the Program is delivered by doctoral level behavior analysts who have a specialization in the course they are teaching. The mode of instruction for academic courses is designed to be relatively flexible allowing instructors to conduct their courses using the internet and on-site instruction. This flexibility allows instructors with other full-time jobs to complete their primary responsibilities while still working in the JUST program. Since its inception the program has been fortunate to hire several prominent scholars and practitioners within the field.

Practical Training

Students in the JUST Masters Degree Program in Applied Behavior Health Analysis must complete 3 practicum courses in the curriculum to graduate from the program. These practica are co-taught by two Masters-level behavior analysts with relevant applied experience. Mode of instruction for practicum courses is conducted on-site over an 6-week period at a training center in Jordan. Instructors work together to supervise students in developing best practices for applying behavior analytic treatments to a variety of clients living and working in the training centers.
